EN54 Pt:23 Beacons, Sounders and Sounder/Beacon Combined Units
The new European fire standard specifies the minimum performance requirements for Visual Alarm Devices (VADs), removing any ambiguity regarding the light output requirements or system design parameters involved with using light to evacuate buildings.
The standard specifies three different classifications for VADs: Wall, Ceiling & Open. Wall & Ceiling mount categories are specified at designated mounting heights and particular coverage patterns areas.
The Open classification allows the manufacturer to specify the coverage volume and coverage shape, and does not restrict mounting height. Pulse Alert Technology is not specified in this way, as it has been designed to exceed the requirements of the more specific device classifications.
Sonos Pulse are available as fire beacons or combined sounder/beacons for wall or ceiling mount. Nexus Pulse are combined sounder/beacons for wall mount only. The choice of a Red or White flash will dictate the final coverage volume.
